Update

In the face of severe criticism from journalists and bloggers with a lot more influence than I have, a few Republicans such as John Boehner, Mitt Romney, and Sarah Palin today joined political leaders, members of the clergy, and others in condemning the threatened Koran burning that is scheduled to occur on Saturday. Others, including John McCain and Newt Gingrich, have refused, despite serious concerns expressed by Gen. Petraeus and other high level military commanders, to go on the record as opposing the burning.

  1. You know what? Were it not for the 24 hour news cycle, probably this idiot would have been ignored and all this stupidity would never have come to light. He's been given way too much power just by virtue of the coverage. Ignore the guy.

  2. I agree that under different circumstances at a different time, no one would have noticed this jerk. Unfortunately, he and his hateful stunt are directly related to the broader anti-Islam sentiment that has been so prevalent lately. This story was almost impossible for the media to ignore. Could it be that this pathetic preacher in Florida, in a perverse sort of way, has done us a favor by forcing us to look in a mirror and examine our own biases?

  3. Oh my, did you see that this morning's anti-Mosque protesters included Geert Wilders, the far-far-right politician from Netherlands? That is really scraping the bottom of the crazy barrel. I think these people indict themselves with their own speaking lineup.
